Peak Power is a cleantech company operating in Ontario, New York, New England, and California. Peak Power offers a full end-to-end solution to commercial and industrial customers to reduce energy costs and pursue net zero goals. Along with financing and development partners, they deploy, operate, optimize, and maintain battery energy storage systems. Their flagship software, Peak Synergy, provides energy management solutions to asset owners. Peak Power has ~175 MWh of battery and electric vehicle capacity under contract or committed.
In 2023, Peak Power raised $35 Million USD in a Series A investment round led by Greenbacker Capital Management LLC, to accelerate the deployment of energy storage and software solutions into the US. Prior investors include Osmington Inc., BDC Capital, Export Development Canada, Hatch, Sensata Technologies, and The Atmospheric Fund.

Derek Lim Soo
Chief Executive Officer And Co-Founder
Derek is a high-energy entrepreneur that brings over twenty years of business experience in the clean technology and energy sectors in senior leaderships roles encompassing business development, capital raising strategies, mergers and acquisitions, technology development and overall executive management. Prior to Peak Power, Derek held several senior executive positions with global cleantech companies, and is a member of the Young President Association (YPO) Toronto Chapter.

Matthew Sachs
Chief Operating Officer And Co-Founder
Matthew has over 20 years of technical experience in the energy and real estate sectors, working in both consulting and development roles. Matthew is passionate about removing the barriers to clean energy adoption, as a member of the Energy Transformation Network of Ontario, Ontario IESO’s Market Renewal Working Group, the OEB’s DERs Connection Working Group, a board member of EnergyStorage Canada, and a founding board member of BGIS’ Building Energy Innovators Council. Before joining Peak Power, Matthew was General Manager of Urbandale Construction and received the Ottawa Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” award in 2013.
Benson Hu
Chief Innovation Officer And Co-Founder
Benson has 20 years of experience in software development and services. As the former Department Manager at UMPay, he led the team to be the third largest mobile payment company in China with a transaction volume of over 250M RMB per month. He grew and managed a team of over 60 software developers, designers, risk managers, and sales specialists to handle transactions with thousands of large corporations and financial institutions, including China Mobile, China Railway, JD.com, Western Union, and more. Benson also holds a master’s degree in Signal and Information Processing – Artificial Intelligence.
